MARK WEDERELL – GENERAL MANAGER

Mark has been General Manager at the Canterbury Car Club for twelve years. Mark’s passion for the sport and club comes from many years as a member, volunteer and competitor. Outside of his role as General Manager, Mark is a Motorsport NZ Steward and is a regular Timekeeper at Levels Raceway. Mark is reminded regularly that “the track was built by the members, for the members”, so uses this statement as a guiding light. It’s important to Mark that motorsport at Ruapuna stays affordable, accessible and fun.

CHRIS PROTHEROE – OPERATIONS MANAGER

Chris.

SHERYL BOWDEN

Sheryl is the friendly face behind the scenes at Canterbury Car Club, handling all pre-race event documentation and supporting our members and drivers in the lead-up to each event. With a background in property management in Auckland, Sheryl brings strong organisational skills and a natural ability to connect with people. Known for her caring nature and bubbly personality, she creates a calm, welcoming atmosphere in the office and is always ready to lend a helping hand.

VANESSA THORPE

Vanessa has been the Volunteer Coordinator / Admin at the Canterbury Car Club since 2016. Based at Euromarque Motorsport Park in Christchurch, she manages volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling, alongside key administrative duties that support the club’s operations. Vanessa also helps organize Christchurch Trackdays and other motorsport events, ensuring they run smoothly and safely. In addition to her behind-the-scenes work, she’s an active autocross competitor, bringing firsthand experience and enthusiasm to everything she does within the motorsport community.

LYDIA TAIT

Lydia is the Partnerships Coordinator at the Canterbury Car Club, a role she stepped into in 2024. She leads the club’s efforts in fundraising, sponsorship, and strategic partnerships, helping to grow and strengthen community and industry connections.

With over a decade of experience in the automotive industry across marketing and administration and married to a mechanic by trade, Lydia brings both professional expertise and a personal passion for motorsport. She’s no stranger to the smell of petrol or the roar of an engine, making her a perfect fit for the club’s high-octane environment.

GREG BENNETT

Greg is our dedicated Groundskeeper at Euromarque Motorsport Park, responsible for keeping the track and grounds in top condition. From maintenance and repairs to mowing, landscaping, and operating heavy machinery, Greg handles it all with care, skill, and pride.

With 10 years of experience managing a farm, along with a background in landscaping and running his own lawn mowing business, Greg brings a wealth of hands-on knowledge to the role. He’s also operated 20-tonne diggers, driven 40-tonne trucks, and worked on remote gravel roads—making him more than capable of tackling anything that comes his way.

Based on the West Coast, Greg travels across to the track each week—thanks to the support of his darling wife Gill. He rises at 3:00 a.m. every Monday morning to make sure he arrives on time, and spends the week onsite before heading home for the weekend.

Greg is known for his high standards, friendly attitude, and passion for his work. He’s also a Mustang enthusiast, so don’t hesitate to stop him for a chat if you see him around the track.
